Biography
[edit]Silva, originally German-born passed her Bereiters exam at the German Riding School in Warendorf with an “excellent” mark and is fortunate to have apprenticed with noted horsemen Paul Beck, Rudolf Zeilinger, and Hubertus Schmidt.[1] Early in her riding career, Silva and her husband Boyd Martin, a member of the US Eventing Team, own and operate their farm, Windurra, in Cochranville, PA. [2]
Silva is a capable rider of many types of horses, and has won awards with Warmbloods and Off-the-track Thoroughbreds, through the Grand Prix level.[3] Silva has found success at major US competitions including Dressage at Devon, the GAIG and CBLM Finals, at regional and national championships, and on the Wellington Florida circuit. [4]
Following her initial success in 2014 Silva sustained a serious head injury while schooling a horse at home – and while wearing a helmet. The injury affected her speech, eyesight, and physical capabilities. Silva took her rehabilitation seriously and by October 2014 she made a full comeback to teaching and riding. [5] After surviving her accident, Silva has made brain injury and helmet awareness in the sport, a personal mission.
