VeraSafe is a US-based company that provides website privacy verification and management, website security scanning and business verification trust seals to e-commerce companies and other websites. Businesses show their verification status in VeraSafe programs with a Trust Seal that they can display on their website. VeraSafe offers its solutions to websites operating in most countries worldwide.[1] VeraSafe operates the website VeraSafe.com.
Trust Seals
[edit]A Trust Seal is a badge a company can display on their website. The Trust Seal shows customers that the business has received verification from an independent third-party. VeraSafe presently offers100+ style variations of their Trust Seal product. Continued access to the Trust Seal requires the business subscribe to VeraSafe’s service and maintain good legal standing. A website visitor can confirm the authenticity of the Trust Seal by clicking on it and reviewing the business contact information on the instant verification page displayed for each verified website.
Privacy Seals (Including Website Privacy Verification and Management)
[edit]VeraSafe operates a website privacy verification and monitoring program. Participants of the program are eligible to display the VeraSafe privacy seal on their websites. The managed self-certification program meets and exceeds standards set by the Online Privacy Protection Act, CAN-SPAM, the Shine the Light law, and the FTC. The purpose of the program is to reduce participants' exposure to legal risk associated with non-compliance.
VeraSafe won the recommendation of the US Postal Service for this and other programs.[2]
Security Seals
[edit]The VeraSafe security seal provides a set of automatic, multi-layered security scans. The service is designed to harden websites against malware threats and website vulnerabilities. The web application scanner also automatically reports website blacklist status to its users. VeraSafe's scanning algorithm includes checks for known web vulnerability including SQL injections, RFI, cross site scripting, and request forgeries.
PCI Scanning
[edit]VeraSafe provides a PCI scanning package for it's clients. The scanning tools are designed to certify that the participant's website is compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards.
Purpose
[edit]The intent of the VeraSafe Trust Seal as well as the website privacy and security scanning programs is to improve consumer trust by showing customers that the company in question has undergone an independent third-party verification. Studies show that a Trust Seal has a positive impact on business.[3] The VeraSafe Trust Seal is proof that the business has a verified physical location and is operating legally within its home country, although each member website does pass a basic web security check and review.
Verification Process
[edit]When a business undergoes VeraSafe’s verification process, VeraSafe attempts to independently confirm the contact information of the business, as well as performing a review of the security of the website. VeraSafe also manually verifies the business address by sending a unique PIN to the business’s registered address. During the verification process, the business receives a provisional Trust Seal. Once verification is complete, the business has access to the full-featured Trust Seal. The total processing time for full business verification depends on the location of the business and ranges from 1–3 days.
