THEO Technologies

THEO Technologies is a video player solution scale-up company founded by Steven Tielemans, Maarten Tielemans and Pieter-Jan Speelmans in Leuven (Louvain), Belgium[1]. The company was founded in 2012 as The Open Telly and was changed to THEOplayer, and finally to THEO Technologies[1].

Their product, THEOplayer is a modular HTML5 video player that uses adaptive streaming formats such as Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming and MPEG-DASH. The player can be used on web browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge), smartphones, tablets and SmartTVs.

Usage

The modular player SDKs allows for the integration of digital rights management (DRM), video analytics, and ad insertions.

THEOplayer won the Best Video Player Solution/SDK category in the European Streaming Media Readers' Choice Awards in 2016[2], 2017[3], 2018[4] and 2019[5]. THEOplayer has also won the Global Streaming Media Readers' Choice Award for Best Video Player Solution/SDK in 2017[6], 2018[7] and 2019[8].

THEO Technologies was awarded the fastest growing tech company in the Media and Entertainment Category of Belgium Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards in 2018[9] and 2019[10]-- and was the 5th fastest growing tech company in Belgium.

THEO Technologies was announced as the 47th fastest growing tech company in the EMEA region in Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Awards[11].

In 2019, the company secured Series A Funding led by SmartFin Capital with participation from PMV and Media Invest Vlaanderen (MIV)[16].
