The Khwaja Ahmad Abbas Award commonly known simply as the KAA Award, is a Literary prize awarded each year for the best original work written in the Urdu language and published anywhere. Khwaja Ahmad Abbas is regarded as one of the leading writers of Urdu language. He received acclaim for his writing during his lifetime. He spent his life to promote the ideals of human equality, economic justice and human rights and developed a following in these endeavors. In 2013 his family established the Khwaja Ahmed Abbas Award to acknowkedge the writers who exemplify the ideals promoted by K.A.Abbas.This award comprises of a modest monetary award and a Certificate acknowledging the contributions of the awardee. The secretary of the award committee is K.A. Abbas’s niece Shehla Naqvi MD, who writes poetry and short stories in Urdu. She has also done translations from English in Urdu. Members include : S. Khurshid Hasanain PhD, Professor of Physics, who is K.A.Abbas’s nephew and who also writes poetry and short stories in Urdu. Tahira HusainNaqvi teaches Urdu at New York University, she writes short stories in English and has translated seminal Urdu literature in English, especially that of Ismat Chughtai. Khwaja Ahmad Award has been bestowed on : 2014 Syed Saeed Naqvi MD who has written novels, short stories and poetry in Urdu and has translated novels and short stories from world literature in Urdu. 2016 Fahmida Riaz: Fahmida Riaz is recognized as a leading light of modern Urdu literature who has struggled for freedom of speech, human rights and democracy in Pakistan. She is recognized as the leading feminist poet of Urdu but her body of work encompasses novels, short stories and translations from Sindhi, Farsi and English 2017 Kishwar Naheed: Kishwar Naheed is a feminist poet who has worked extensively to promote women’s rights, freedom of speech and human rights. She also writes for newspapers and done translations from English to Urdu. 2018 Award will be given to Mubarak Ali:Mubarak Ali PhD has written extensively on history and has published a magazine on the topic for years. His focus is scientific study and evaluation of historical events to dispel hatreds and promote understanding between groups by removing the myths surrounding them./>
