History
[edit]Ironweed are an American rock band, formed in NY in 2007, by guitarist and main songwriter Mike Vitali, bassist Brendan Slater, singer Rocco DiDonna, and drummer Jim Feck. The band have since experienced multiple line-up changes, with guitarist Vitali being the only constant presence in the band through the years. Originally formed in 2006 as a heavy blues rock band, the band soon adopted the name Ironweed and began incorporating apocalyptic themes with end of time lyrics and tuned-down guitars. After self releasing "The Great Destroyer" with the original line up the band signed with Detroit's Small Stone Records and released "Indian Ladder" and "Your World of Tomorrow" with new singer Jeff Andrews.
While touring in support of "Indian Ladder" the band added Ryan Rapp (Endicott - Equal Vision Records) as a second guitarist. Writing for "Your World of Tomorrow" saw the band replace drummer Jim Feck and Rapp with members of The Clay People (Dan Dinsmore on drums and Mike Guzzardi on guitar).[1]
In support of the soon to be released follow up to "Indian Ladder"[2] the band performed a Small Stone Records showcase at South by Southwest. The band's 10pm set at Room 710 in Austin, TX coincided with a secret outdoor show directly outside the venue by legacy metal band Metallica[3]. [4]Thus began a series of issues within the band and with Small Stone Records leading to Vitali starting the label Magnetic Eye Records[5]. Ultimately "Your World of Tomorrow" was a joint release between Small Stone Records and Magnetic Eye Records featuring Jeff Andrews and Mike Vitali as the primary songwriters and lyricists with Andrews handling nearly all vocal duties and both Andrews and Vitali playing guitar, Brendan Slater bass and Dan Dinsmore drums. The record featured post-apcolyptic songs in which consumerism is the Utopia while the individual is constantly under surveillance by large mega-corporations to ensure a facade of perfection.[6]
