Microsoft Windows has quite a long history but had a beginning.
It all started one day when Bill Gates and Paul Allen wrote some code and a program for the Altair 8800, a computer that had no programs.
This evolved into MS-DOS, a text user interface (TUI).
Eventually Microsoft made a program. The MS-DOS Executive. What you didn't know was that this would evolve into our everyday lives, schools, businesses, but it all started here.

The MS-DOS Executive was one of the first MS-DOS programs, enabling users to open multiple applications at the same time. It introduced many programs, such as Write, Terminal, and Calendar. This version of Windows was 16-bit, which meant 32-bit applications were not compatible with it. To boot into the executive, you typed C:/win in the command line. Attempting to run a Windows program via MS-DOS would result in the response: "This program requires Microsoft Windows."
