History

[edit]

Jyoti Structures Limited JSL was incorporated as a Private Limited Company on May 27, 1974. The company began commercial operations in 1979 with the opening of the first manufacturing facility at Nashik, not long after that Tata Exports decided to invest into the ownership of the company as they were looking for a reliable supplier of towers for their transmission line business. This gave JSL an opportunity to work on international projects right from the beginning of their operations. JSL went public in the year 1989 and the shares were listed on BSE.

It was around 1984-85 that JSL started quoting directly for supply orders to National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and State Electricity Boards (SEBs) on own. Having established with NTPC and the SEBs as a reputed and reliable supplier of transmission line towers and sub-station structures, JSL decided to enter the field of turnkey projects in the year 1987, set up construction division. In 1988, JSL bagged first turnkey contract from Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB).

Looking at the huge domestic demand and the immense potential for export of transmission line towers, JSL commissioned another unit at Urla Industrial Area, Raipur, Chattisgarh, in March 1995. Urla Industrial Area was a notified backward area and this resulted in getting incentives for setup. The unit at Raipur has an additional geographic advantage as a large number of steel rolling mills are situated in and around Raipur.

At all manufacturing units, CNC machines are there for optimization of transmission line towers. With this, JSL have the most modern plant to manufacture transmission line towers in the country.

In the month of March 1995, JSL accredited with ISO – 9001 certification by NQA –QSR (RVA accredited). In July 2001, JSL Nashik factory was accredited with ISO – 14001 certification.

JSL has dealt with clients from over 45 countries around the world. JSL products have been exported to countries like Australia, Chile, Canada, Ethiopia, Egypt, France, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Namibia, Nigeria, Oman, Philippines, Peru, Qatar, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, UAE, Uganda etc.

In the year 1997, JSL commissioned its own Research and Development and Tower Testing Centre at Ghoti near Nasik. This is one of the most modern facilities available in the world and is suitable for testing of towers upto 1,200 kV. This enables for optimization of designing capabilities. The tower testing facility is utilized for captive usage and also for third party testing for other companies around the world.

JSL has established a joint venture company in Dubai in the year 2008, viz. Gulf Jyoti International LLC (GJI). This venture was formed between Gulf Investment Corporation, Kuwait and JSL.

JSL has a subsidiary company named Jyoti Structures Africa (JSA) which is based out of Johannesburg. Many projects are executed for clients like NamPower and Eskom.

JSL has also started a subsidiary – Jyoti Americas LLC in the United States and it is currently setting up the most modern lattice tower shop in the Americas. The plant started operations in Conroe, Texas.
