The following information could be requested about historical projects from W3C and other software developers.
Ideally, it is an overview of a piece of software.
- Product name/Abbreviations - What was the software called? What was it abbreviated as? Why was the name chosen.
- Example: Internet Explorer is often abbreviated as IE. The Adobe Creative Suite is often abbreviated as CS and Photoshop as PS.
- Did the product have a slogan?
- Did the product have any advertisements? (Some may qualify for non-free image use.)
- Version History - On what dates were the Alpa, Beta, and actual product releases? On what date was product development for a version announced or canceled? (If possible why?) What were the project codenames (again if possible, see why they were named that way)? What were the major changes between releases? If significant, when were service packs/patches released. What was the first release + date, and the most recent release + date. Has the product been discontinued or is it still in development?
- Developers- Who were the main developers/authors of the program. (If possible, what did each do and for how long.) Who were the original developers/authors?
- System Requirements- What are the minimum/recommended system requirements for the software. On what platforms did it run? What operating systems did it support? Where there any major ports? When was the release date for each of these.
- Technical-Any relevant technical information such as what language the program was written in, or how many lines of code it is.
- Languages-What languages did the program support.
- Purpose-What was the purpose of the program.
- Website/Publications-What were the main sites for the software. What were the main books published on it/for it.
- License- Is it a proprietary or open source program. Is it freeware or shareware?
- Download links-Where can the program be downloaded legally today if possible.
- Screenshots- Could any development/alpha screen shots be provided. Could any regular screenshots be provided?
