User:Slsen/Evaluate an Article
Which article are you evaluating?
[edit]The article(s) I'm evaluating is the Phonological word article and/or the Phonological hierarchy article.
Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?
[edit]Both of these articles are considered stubs by Wikipedia. They also both seem to use language that I believe is unnecessarily technical for most readers. The phonological word article is really brief, only a few sentences, and relies entirely on a single source.
Evaluate the article
[edit]The phonological word article is a stub, only consisting of a few sentences. There is definitely more that can be explained and elaborated upon, at least in less technical language. For example, what differentiates a phonological word from what most readers would consider a regular word, or a word as a syntactic constituent? Why is the phonological word a necessary constituent in the phonological hierarchy? Some examples, data, and visualizations could also be incorporated as well.
In addition, while the content of the article is brief it is rife with technical language without definitions. In addition, much of the terminology links to articles that do not exist in the first place, so even if a reader did want to dig deeper to understand the meaning of the language that is used here they wouldn't be able to.
Another major issue with this article is that it relies entirely on a single source. And, the source is referenced with an APA style in-text citation, which I don't believe is consistent with the Wikipedia sourcing format. There are definitely other sources out there about the phonological hierarchy and the phonological word that could be included here.
Finally, I checked the Talk page and it consists of a lone comment:
- I've studied this in a limited capacity at university and I can't make any sense of this page. I've done a quick search online and can't really find anything that helps. Lithium (talk) 16:12, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
This is from 2015, so it seems this page has been in rough shape for a while now. While working on this article and finding sources, I would also like to find sources and information to improve the article about the broader Phonological hierarcy, of which the phonological word is a part of.
