The MClass Mastering Suite is a collection of audio processing tools designed for audio mastering, found in the virtual music workstation Propellerhead's Reason.
General
[edit]The MClass Mastering Suite was first introduced in Reason version 3.0 as previous versions of Reason was criticized for poor ability of professional mixdown and final track mastering. The Reason staff have mentioned in the official Reason forum that Reason was not originally designed for mastering purposes, and that other 3rd party software should be used for that purpose to achieve professional results. With the introduction of the MClass, critics of Reason's lacking mastering abilities have diminished.
The MClass suite is made up from four different types of audio processing devices, organized into a customized Combinator device. These four devices that makes up the complete MClass suite is (in default routed order):
Storing these four invidual MClass audio processors within a Combinator allows for such flexibility as custom internal signal routing of the entire MClass suite, adding or deleting other Reason devices in the MClass suite, aswell as detaching the invidual audio processors from the MClass suite. This ability of detaching and using any of the four MClass audio processors for signal processing anywhere within Reason's virtual device rack, have in effect replaced the older and simpler COMP-01 Compressor/Limiter and PEQ-2 Two Band Parametric EQ.
