General notes for my potential expansion or refinement of the Atlantic Records article. It's mostly just for me, but if you somehow ended up here, hi! What started out as me wanting to test out my fancy new extended confirmed powers with a quick skim-and-copyedit ended in me gathering sources to do the stuff that people who don't mark all their changes as 'minor' do, like 'gather sources' and, ideally, 'write'. Oops. Pardon the mess.
Tasks to be done
[edit]- Clean up existing prose. A lot of it could be simplified, and I've noticed some paraphrases that teeter on being too close, so maybe go over the existing sources and try and correct them. Check the current sources for accuracy.
- Figure out how to deal with the references section. While I feel on close examination that I didn't do as bad as I first believed, what with it being an inconsistent citation style already--partially in a variation of 'shortened footnotes' and partially in 'footnotes', I fear my 'rp' solution is conflicting with every other page number being in the references themselves. Find something ok to fix it. Maybe ask the talk page. Probably do this after done adding more content, in case the new stuff influences the decision on which one is preferable. The current {{rp}} format I've been using may be less necessary as more varied sources get added, for instance, but it feels very needed now to keep sources from being cluttered with duplicate sources.
- Add more content. MAJOR drop off in amount of info for anything past the 90's. Probably shouldn't suddenly be switching from descriptions of eras to year ranges, but I'm willing to work that out once we have more to work with.
- See if there are any record labels that are GA or FA, read them for general inspiration on how a good article is laid out.
Sources for reference and expanding primarily the Pre-90's section.
[edit]Books
[edit]Will mostly be useful for additional references in the already-mostly-written areas.
9781566490481 What'd I Say?: The Atlantic Story (note: written by Ahmet Ertegun himself, be careful but maybe helpful?)
9780876900628 Making Tracks: Atlantic Records and the Growth of a Multi-billion-dollar Industry
9781416558385 The last sultan : the life and times of Ahmet Ertegun
0380814773 Exploding : the highs, hits, hype, heroes, and hustlers of the Warner Music Group (seems to have promising mention of them?)
av/docs
Atlantic Records: The House That Ahmet Built from American Masters. Usually I wouldn't cite a doc, but I trust PBS.
Expansion
[edit]Big content gap from the 90s to today. Work on filling in the gaps. Sorting in order by date. I think. Some month&day layouts are kinda ambiguous.
just starting this section from scratch since it is SO hard not to mix up it and Atlantic Records Group.
