[edit]

He was born in Lincoln, England and attended Lincoln Christ's Hospital School and Lincoln College, Lincolnshire. He finished his Bachelor of Arts and later pursued Master of Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London, London in Theory of art, submitting his final thesis on the resurgence of nihilism in contemporary philosophical discourse. Philosphical Work

[edit]

Charles William Johns works within the fields of phenomenology, neo materialism, speculative realism (in particular Object-Oriented Ontology) and Relational theory such as the works of Bruno Latour and Tristan Garcia. Charles William Johns work attempts to synthesize a Relational Ontology with Graham Harman’s Object-Oriented Philosophy through the idea that relations are simultaneously immanent yet contain their own internal duality i.e relation is both a mode of the world and a property of that world, which cannot be reduced to other relations (relations are irreducible and will'withdraw'). In total, he has published 6 books and has edited a collection of essays on neurosis with contributors such as Graham Harman and Nick Land.[2] In it, he and other writers challenge the terms subsequent demise from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and argue for its prevalence in contemporary discourses on knowledge (mainly philosophy, psychology, science, linguistics, and sociology).[3] For this work, he was interviewed by Moscow Museum of Modern Art.[4] His new book titled Irreducible Reality of the Object will be published by Springer Publishing in 2020.

Fiction Writing

[edit]

Charles William Johns is a ‘Method Writer’ in his fictional work (analogous to 'method acting' in theatre); he finds his content in everyday life, researches real people and integrates them into his stories. He even lives out the characters of his stories. His work has been celebrated by Julian Barnes and D. M. Thomas.
