Arnold Chigwerewe (born 04 September 1989), known professionally as Selekta Base, is a Zimbabwean DJ, events promoter, and philanthropist. He is the founder of the Selekta Base Foundation and has been active in Zimbabwe's entertainment industry for over a decade. He is recognized for his contributions to the local hip hop scene, motorsport events, and community upliftment initiatives.
Career
[edit]Chigwerewe began his career in entertainment as a club DJ before expanding into event curation and promotion. Over the years, he has worked with several brands and artists in Zimbabwe, organizing music events and car shows that fuse motorsport, music, and youth culture.
He gained prominence through a series of high-profile events under the Selekta Base brand, including the BlowOut Festival and other urban lifestyle showcases that draw large audiences. In 2023, he hosted a tour in the United Kingdom, reflecting his growing international appeal.[1]
Selekta Base Foundation
[edit]Beyond entertainment, Chigwerewe leads the Selekta Base Foundation, which runs charity-driven programs focused on marginalized communities. In 2024, the Foundation led a pre-Mothers Day outreach campaign in Chitungwiza, donating essentials to single mothers and elderly women.[2]
Recognition
[edit]Chigwerewe has received recognition for his contributions to Zimbabwean entertainment. In 2023, he was awarded Best Club DJ at the Zim Hip Hop Awards.[3]
He has also been profiled by Zimbabwean media for his impact on event planning and motorsport culture.[4][5]
