I am discussing African textiles as my topic, I wanted to choose one that was more specific and that I would be able to deeply research and gain knowledge on. This particular topic goes beyond the dates discussed in the course, but also within that time period, giving it importance to what we are discussing.

Evaluate the article

This articles discusses the history of Kente cloth and how it began and developed throughout history. It is one of many textile arts seen and created in African art history. Both symbols and colors play a large role in Kente cloth making with each color symbolism something unique. We see different versions of it based on who the artist was and how they have incorporated their own sense of style. However, due to it's delicate nature, we do not often see many Kente cloths still intact today that can be experienced and learned from first hand. Another influence in the creation of Kente cloth making is gender, as males are often who create the pieces rather than females. Finally, the article discusses the controversies of Kente cloth and how it affected the society it predominantly existed in.
