[edit]Choi Seung Cheol (Korean: 최승철; born 8 August 1995), better known as S.Coups (Korean: 에스쿱스) is a Korean singer and songwriter based in South Korea. He is the leader and main rapper of the South Korean boy group Seventeen and its subunit "Hip-Hop Unit".
Early life and education
[edit]S.Coups was born in Daegu, South Korea. He attended the Seoul School of Performing Arts (‘14), Hanyang University (Practical Music Major in Kpop). He has an older brother who is 2 years older than him. He became a trainee in 2010.
Career
[edit]2010-2015 : Pre-debut
[edit]S.Coups became a trainee in Pledis Entertainment in 2010 and was a part of the original Pledis Boys group. He trained for 6 years before debuting as a part of Seventeen. S.Coups was initially a member of a group named Tempest and was also supposed to debut with NU'EST before joining Seventeen in their first official TV show called Seventeen TV .
His stage name S.Coups comes from S – his name Sungcheol, Coups – Coup d’état.
S.Coups also featured in After School/Orange Caramel Raina‘s solo song “Superwoman” and starred in After School Blue’s “Wonder Boy” and NU’EST’s “Face” music video before debut.
2015-present : Debut and solo activities

In 2015, S.Coups debuted with the South Korea boy band, Seventeen. Their first EP 17 Carat was digitally released on 29 May.
On November 2019, Pledis Entertainment announced that S.Coups will go on a hiatus due to anxiety issues. On 3 March 2020, he officially returned back after the break.
