![]() | Evaluate an article
Complete your article evaluation below. Here are the key aspects to consider: Lead sectionA good lead section defines the topic and provides a concise overview. A reader who just wants to identify the topic can read the first sentence. A reader who wants a very brief overview of the most important things about it can read the first paragraph. A reader who wants a quick overview can read the whole lead section.
ContentA good Wikipedia article should cover all the important aspects of a topic, without putting too much weight on one part while neglecting another.
Tone and BalanceWikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point of view; if there are substantial differences of interpretation or controversies among published, reliable sources, those views should be described as fairly as possible.
Sources and ReferencesA Wikipedia article should be based on the best sources available for the topic at hand. When possible, this means academic and peer-reviewed publications or scholarly books.
Organization and writing qualityThe writing should be clear and professional, the content should be organized sensibly into sections.
Images and Media
Talk page discussionThe article's talk page — and any discussions among other Wikipedia editors that have been taking place there — can be a useful window into the state of an article, and might help you focus on important aspects that you didn't think of.
Overall impressions
Examples of good feedbackA good article evaluation can take a number of forms. The most essential things are to clearly identify the biggest shortcomings, and provide specific guidance on how the article can be improved. |

[edit]Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?
[edit]I am very passionate about the american lending system. Interest rates can be used to stimulate as well as depress economies for short and long periods of time. Recently, the American economy experienced a very hike interest rate hike which has produced a ripple effect among banks, corporations, and consumers.
Evaluate the article
[edit]Lead Section: The lead section clearly and concisely describes the articles topic. However, it does not include a brief section on the articles major sections. It also contains a section on the interest rate has been "characterized" ... and proceeds with an unclear definition which feels extraneous and too specific for a lead section. I would recommend moving the definition to the body of the article or making it a clear definition.
Content: In related terms, the sentence "a discount rate is applied to calculate present value" seems unfinished. The term, discount rate, is extremely complex and offers no hyperlink to a source on discount rates, nor doesn't it elaborate on what present value is. Both these terms are complex financial jargon that either need to be elaborated on (my preference) or left out of the article entirely.
Tone and Balance: The article is a neutral tone, well-written.
Sources and Reference: Interest rates are a long-standing financial tool. So current sources may not necessarily have new information except for current news on government interest rates. The article has many current and dated sources, that pull a variety of different information.
Organization and Writing Quality: Excellent organization, with clear sections and concise writing. Short and to the point, exactly how interest rates should be written about.
Images and Media: portrays various graphs of interest rates over time, which are some of the most important ways of seeing how interest rates affect the economy.
Talk Page Discussion: External links modified, rated B-class, high-importance. Interest rates are one of the most important topics, I would argue this page is underdeveloped.
Overall impressions: Great article, yet feels like so much is missing. Interest rates may be the economies most important financial tool and feel like more should be written about the topic.
