Color blindness is also popular among conservative presidents and lawmakers. When defending new voting rights bills in 2020, Texas legislators claimed that as race was not a factor on their voting records, their new requirements to vote could not be racist, as it didn't see racism. It was, according to them, color blind. In response to protests from the black lives matter movement, then President Donald J. Trump said that while black citizens were killed by police officers, so were white citizens, and in larger quantities, so the issue was not race-based.
