User:R~enwiki/Vandalism Parole
When users vandalize and fail to stop, they are blocked for a period of time. They can then post an unblock request. If their request is simply "I will stop", or something along those lines, they will normally not be unblocked. Under this proposal, they would always be granted "parole (unblocking)" , under the following conditions:
- Their request for unblock is civil.
- If any edit after being granted parole is vandalism, they will be blocked on sight for the same amount of time or longer.
- They continue to be civil.
- They accept the conditions given to them.
Users would volunteer to watch users in a category. Blocks are preventative, not punitive. If someone says they will contribute, give them that chance. If they lie, just take it away. It's as easy as pushing a button. Parole expires after the time the block was supposed to expire. After that, they may only be blocked on sight if the admin thinks they should be.
How it Would Work
[edit]If an admin sees an unblock request that qualifies for parole, they can leave {{subst:User:R/Paroleoffer}}. The unblock request will stay open. The user will then be asked to accept the conditions. If they do, leave {{subst:User:R/Parolegranted}}. Parolled users' will be tracked at Category:Wikipedians under parole, which will be inserted in the Parolegranted template. (probably by date using sort). If the program grows big enough, users will be assigned specific users.
