I have chosen this article to give me the basic knowledge of how the economy works. It matters because the economy and the national debt go hand in hand, and I thought the article was well written and concise.

The article is very well organized, and begins with the earliest history of the discipline. The authors chronologically explain the people involved in the study of economics, and then go on to illustrate how the economy works in capitalist societies. There are plenty of links to other sources for relating topics.
