Capital Community RadioItalic text is located at Wireless Hill Park, Ardross a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. For a radio station, its location has a historical significance. It was the site of the first communications radio in 1912 linking Perth with the rest of Australia and the world.

The concept of creating a radio station dedicated to serving the senior citizens of Perth emerged in the year 2000. A group of volunteers experienced in community radio had become aware that there was no other radio station in Perth addressing the special interests of this large grouping of citizens.

From concept to development, the volunteer group moved through a series of stages planning, obtaining finance, registering Capital Community Radio Inc as an entity to a point in early 2001 where it applied to the government licensing authority for a Temporary Community Broadcast Licence. In October of that year a licence to broadcast was granted.

It was a real starting point for the station, although for some time there were challenges along the way towards the target of achieving full permanent licensing as a community radio station. Not the least of these was the finding of suitable premises, maintaining continuity of finance, and particularly, a radio frequency on which to broadcast.

A major step forward followed in September 2002, when premises were made available by the City of Melville at Wireless Hill Park and converted into a broadcast centre ready to begin transmission. It was not until May 2003, however, that the most significant goal was reached. Still armed with a temporary broadcast licence, Capital Community Radio was granted the 90.5FM frequency covering the immediate Perth area and given permission to begin test transmissions. In essence, this was when it really became a radio station.

Nearly five years would pass before the point was reached where it was acknowledged that Capital Radio had proved its continuity of professional performance and on January 7, 2008, was granted a Permanent Community Broadcasting Licence. Capping this achievement one year later was its allocation of a new frequency 101.7FM which effectively licensed it to cover the greater metropolitan area and significantly extend its audience reach.

Now clearly identified as the station whose main purpose is the provision of programming for Perth's senior citizens, Capital Community Radio has established a firm band of dedicated listeners and is focused on adding to the service it provides them.
