Very long and pernicious vandalism campaign on climate info for location pages
[edit]Accounts within this vandalism campaign
[edit]- Courtney_Abigail (talk · contribs) Active October 2013, blocked for unconstructive editing. This may have been the original account that started it all
- At that time, Anna Frodesiak (talk · contribs) determined that Holaga (talk · contribs), Urbanshoester69 (talk · contribs), and Urbanshocker (talk · contribs) were related, though I do not believe the last one is.
- 23.243.80.13 (talk · contribs) active from November 2013 to February 2014, clearly the same user as above due to replying to original block
- 24.152.167.212 (talk · contribs) Active December 2013-February 2014, editing several of the same pages as the above IP (such as Crescent City, California) and below IP (such as White Mountain Peak); constructive edits for a few years prior (likely another person entirely)
- Belruin (talk · contribs) Active January 2014, Blocked September 2014)
- 50.167.205.46 (talk · contribs) Active January-August 2014; many edits in concert with Belruin (talk · contribs)
Potential
[edit]User:AA2019AA (2 week block for disruptive edits, then went silent...new account?) 67.81.108.175 (talk · contribs)
Characterized by edits that introduce misinformation and/or remove correct information, sneakily interspersed with helpful or at least seemingly helpful edits. This is a typical case: the text description seems to be a correct addition, but the numerical edits are nonsense, and the mean temperature data has been removed completely without explanation. Another example: adds a climate info box, but it contains info for an entirely different location (Alma, Colorado).
My theory is that this misinformation campaign is the user's idea of revenge for their first account (Courtney_Abigail (talk · contribs)) being blocked. You can see from their response under 23.243.80.13 (talk · contribs) that they almost instantly started this vandalism campaign after being blocked.
Most of these edits have been reverted, but it would be impossible for me to check them all. Is there some tool out there to check if a user's changes are still live? -RunningOnBrains(talk) 23:27, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
