User:Rosaece/We can't all be writers
This essay is in development. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints—especially since this page is still under construction. |
When one thinks of Wikipedia, articles are the first thing that come to mind. It follows that, when people begin contributing to Wikipedia, they may dive straight into writing articles. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but everyone has different strengths and weaknesses; for some, writing falls into the latter.
Of course, these people are sincerely trying to help (most of the time), and that is perfectly valid. But, as Wikipedia:Competence is required puts it, a mess created with good intentions is still a mess that must be cleaned up.
The aim is not to discourage people from editing, but rather to encourage playing to one's strengths. Not everyone is cut out for writing lengthy articles, and that's okay! Some editors enjoy fixing typos and grammatical errors. Others excel at categorising articles. Whatever you're good at, there's something here for you.
