Union Digital Union 1 is a software and communication tool that will allow you to stay fully connected to your members, while improving your member servicing abilities on all fronts. From grievance management, to bargaining your next collective agreement, Union 1 has it all.
History
[edit]The company’s first union client providing promotional products was in the summer of 2001. In 2007 the company registered Federally as Canadian Union Promotions Inc. Canadian Union Promotions Inc. introduces its first marketing services in 2009.
In 2011 the company registered Union Marketing as a trade name and in 2013 Union Marketing staff gets unionized under CUPE 5277. Two years later the company acquires a print shop to provide printing solutions for unions. That same year the company unveiled its first SaaS platform as LUNA (Labour Union Network Access).
In 2017 the company implements Enterprise Level install with large union clients. The company expanded its software development team in 2017.
In 2018 the company opened its new headquarters (in Etobicoke), expanded print and promotional production facility and finalized enterprise level LUNA.
In 2019 the company developed scalable version of Union 1 software product for small to medium sized unions (SMU).

Software
[edit]Designed by a union for unions, U1 provides the necessary digital infrastructure to effectively manage and advance the operational workflow of unions.
U1 software replaces the traditional paper filing system with an integrated cloud-based platform that is accessible anywhere on any device.
U1’s central Member Portal and Database stores all important information in one place and streamlines access to information across members.
User accounts are customizable for the various positions within unions and locals, including user accounts for executive members, stewards, committee chairs, table officers etc.
U1 equips union executives with the necessary tools to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively manage their union, including centrally track grievances, create membership reports, locate collective agreement articles through simplified indexing and monitor seniority lists.
Core U1 Features
[edit]U1’s core features are designed for unions of any size.
The Member Hub, allows unions to store, retain, search and track all membership information in a single, easily accessible database that is accurate and up to date.
The communication feature provides every union member with the right communication tools to keep membership informed and increase public awareness. The Grievances and Cases is a simplified grievance processing system that automates creation, filing and tracking of grievances, WSIB, injury reports and others.
The Collective Agreement Management feature enables collective agreements to be accessible, searchable and utilized as a tool while bargaining or filing grievances.
The Event Management tool enables unions to Create events such as GMMs, Workshops, Conferences, Executive and Membership meetings with ease. Unions can easily send out communications to invite members to their events.
The Union Resources feature provides resources such as customizable reports and surveys, simplifies operational workflows, facilitates internal and external communications and seamlessly organizes membership data.
Member Mail
[edit]While email addresses are provided as a part of the core module for credential verifications, mail usage and storage is an option module.
Member Portal
[edit]A secure Intranet for member-specific information, such as collective agreements, seniority lists, bargaining updates and other union specific content
Member App
[edit]Custom union application, for Android or Apple mobile devices, that mobilizes union members with real-time access to important information.
Member ID
[edit]Near Field Communication (“NFC”) cards simplifies login for union members by tapping the NFC card on their mobile devices cellphone.
Strike Hub
[edit]Provide a centralized hub for all required strike and picketing needs, including attendance tracker, latest updates and communications.
Content Management

Technologies
[edit]U1’s cloud-based platform enables its clients to access U1 from anywhere and complete tasks while on the go. Following the multi-tenant architecture, isolated hive, updates are implemented across the entire U1 platform.
U1’s ability to seamlessly accommodate increase in load on servers and scale down without loss of data using micro services. This can be scaled vertically in response to load which allows U1 to control costs.
Use of industry standard frameworks with U1’s own customization allows the Company to achieve outstanding user interface and user experience while maintaining unique UI.
Use of isolated networks for microservice communications with JWT tokens ensures network privacy. U1 employs DB level encryption with high value data points. Active session tracking also allows U1 to passively track system access.
IT Infrastructure

AWS ELB: Elastic Load Balancer responsible for scaling up and down application servers, high availability provider.
Data Store: Amazon S3 bucket is used for file storage, AWS Aurora is used for relational data records provided as a client isolated store.
AWS EC2: Load-based scaling of servers to optimize operational costs. Continues Integration for application updates.
