The South African Over 50's Cricket Team, also known as the Proteas Veterans, participated in the Evergreen Lifestyle Over 50's Cricket World Cup in March 2023. The event took place in the picturesque city of Cape Town and the Boland Winelands region. 14 countries participated in the global showpiece that included: Australia, Canada, England, India, Pakistan, Namibia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, USA, Wales, West Indies, Zimbabwe and hosts South Africa.

Australia were the defending champions from the inaugural 2018 tournament held in Australia. After two weeks of intense competition in the 45 over competition South Africa and England squared-off in the final held at Newlands Cricket Stadium in Cape Town on 21 March 2023. The rain-affected match was reduced to 40 overs with England (267/8) defeating the Proteas Veterans (202/8) by 65 runs. Giles Ecclestone who managed 120 runs off 103 balls for the victors was also named man of the match.

This was the first time that a Proteas men's team at any level reached a world cup final. The Proteas Women had earlier in 2023 also lost out in the final against Australia in the T20 World Cup at Newlands.
