DJ Sackmann

Early Life and Education DJ Sackmann was born on January 14, 1987, in Pequannock, New Jersey. From a young age, he exhibited a passion for basketball, developing advanced ball-handling skills during his middle school years. His dedication to the sport was influenced by the And1 Mixtape Tour, which shaped his creative approach to basketball training.[1]
Collegiate Career Sackmann attended the University of New Haven, where he was a four-year starter for the men’s basketball team. During his collegiate years, he refined his playing skills while also assisting coaching staff with scouting reports and game analyses.[2]
Professional Playing Career Following his graduation in 2009, Sackmann played professionally in Germany, representing Team Prague in the Eurobasket S. League.[3]
Coaching and Training Career
After his brief professional playing career, Sackmann transitioned into coaching and player development. He became the AAU director and lead trainer in North Jersey, working with players at all levels, including NBA athletes such as Evan Turner, Andre Barrett, DeMarre Carroll, and Mario Chalmers.
In 2012, he partnered with Micah Lancaster’s I’m Possible Training and quickly established himself as one of the organization’s top trainers. His unique approach to skill development attracted national recognition, leading to a partnership with Adidas Basketball as a brand ambassador.[4]
Entrepreneurial Ventures
In August 2016, Sackmann launched HoopStudy, an online basketball training platform that offers conceptual and movement-based training accessible via mobile devices.[1]
Additionally, Sackmann partnered with Basketball Coaching, Israel’s largest basketball training company, where he developed basketball-specific programs and worked with over 3,000 players. This collaboration led to Accelerate Israel, a year-long training initiative combining camps and training sessions in Israel and the United States.
Head Coach of Lunar Owls BC
In 2025, Sackmann was appointed head coach of the Lunar Owls Basketball Club, a team in the newly established Unrivaled League. Under his leadership, the team has demonstrated strong performance, maintaining an undefeated record in its early games.[5]
