Gulabi Srinu (born Srinivasa Reddy Poluri) is an Indian Film director known for his work in Telugu cinema. He made his directorial debut in 2010 through Bhairava IPS[1] starring Srihari and Sindhu Tolani in the main roles and has worked in many Tollywood films before his debut.

Early Life

He was born on 27th October 1978 in Ramanayapalem, Prakasam District to father, Nagireddy Poluri and mother, Venkayamma Poluri. He studied in Narasayapalem from 1st to 10th grade at Z.P High School and completed his intermediate studies as well as his Bachelor of Commerce degree in Bapatla, Guntur at TJPS College. Then left to Chennai to take part in the Film Direction Course at the Chennai Film Institute in 1998. He finally moved to Hyderabad to pursue his Masters in Commerce at Osmania University.

During his days at college he placed second at a State-level singing competition for singing a song popular during the time from the movie Gulabi (1995). Becoming popular for his talent in singing, he was eventually coined the name Gulabi Srinu. During his early years in the Cinema Industry, the late actor Srihari found it unique and suggested him to use it as a screen name.

Career

Soon after started his film career by taking up the post as a manager at the Shanthi Film Acting and Dance Institute. Then joined as an assistant director under director S.V. Krishna Reddy for the movie Premaku Velayara and eventually, started travelling with the late actor Srihari working in almost all the movies starring the actor. As he gained experience, he moved from the position of Assistant Director to an Associate director[2] and co-director for numerous films in Telugu cinema. He made his directorial debut with Bhairava IPS starring Srihari and Sindhu Tolani which was produced by the producer Natti Kumar.[3]


In the year 2011, Gulabi Srinu received the Bharata Muni Best Debut Director award for Bhairava.
