The Wimpys are a Japanese pop-punk band formed in 1998 by members Hirocky (bass and chorus), Sobby (guitar and chorus), Yummy (rhythm guitar and vocals), and Annie (drums). The band infuses modern punk rock with 1960's era surf music and other genres encompassed in 1950's and 1960's rock and roll. Harmony is a defining feature of the band's sound, reminiscent of The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, or Bruce & Terry, but with the punk stylings, simplicity, and edge of The Ramones. The band records and performs in English despite the members being Japanese.
According to the band's myspace biography, "To them, English is the native language of rock n' roll, and despite the fact that English is not The Wimpy's native language, they decided to try their best out of respect and love for the music." [1]
The band has performed with bands such as The Queers, The Parasites, The Spazzys, Nikki Corvette, The Apers, The Manges, Paul Collins, and Mach Pelican.
