Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?
[edit]French artist, Jean-Léon Gérôme's paintings of gladiatorial combat are currently housed in Yale University's Art Gallery. Last year I had the opportunity to analyze his work and the concept of the tortured muse and their role in art. The artistic depiction of violence and suffering throughout history has played a massive role in humanity’s collective interpretation of these subjects. Creators of visual art in particular are among the most influential in shaping the consciousness of society in their masterful control of the metaphysical. Internationally renowned French painter and sculptor, Jean-Léon Gérôme, encapsulates the power of the artist in his widely recognized work, as he inspired modern creatives over a century later as we've seen references to his work, including Pollice Verso, in modern cinematography such as Gladiator and Gladiator II. I appreciate the mastery of Gerome's work and the legacy of his incredible paintings.
