I would rather eat dog poop than be forced to use Star testing. It was seemingly designed to promote pain and misery. Why in the world is it so easy to click the "cancel" button when logging into the test, and why in the world does it force you to log out of the computer completely? Every time a student accidentally clicks on the "cancel" button (which is VERY EASY to do!), it immediately sets them back a good five minutes, because they have to go through the laborious process of logging in again.
This is exacerbated by the fact that everything PRIOR to the "Are you in school?" dialogue box is slow and loads slowly, requiring multiple clicks, so students are used to double clicking on things. Then, when they obviously double click on the "YES" for "Are you in school", surprise surprise, it responds immediately! And guess where the cursor is located after they click once! It's right over the "cancel" button!! And then the process has to begin again! I had a poor student waste FIFTEEN minutes because she kept double-clicking on "YES" and ending up clicking the "cancel" button right after.
(Today, that student did successfully enter the practice test, only to fail it. I had the student log back in to take the early literacy test instead, but she clicked on "STAR Reading" instead, not understanding my instructions. Woohoo, guess what? She has ABSOLUTELY NO RECOURSE other than to spend FIVE MINUTES MORE logging into the system again. AHHH, this Star program is absolute GARBAGE.)
In addition (as if that weren't enough!), when the test is over, the screen shows absolutely NO indication of if the student failed the practice test, successfully completed the test, or didn't take the test at all! It's the exact same screen! How unhelpful!
I have never experienced a professional, paid-for program that was worse than this. What an epic disaster.
I don't know you, you poor person reading this, but I would highly recommend seeking employment elsewhere. If the consideration they show employees is anything like the consideration they show students, RUN.
