Vision For The Country

60 years ago India's founding forefathers had a dream for all of us - a dream of an equal and just society where every man, woman and child has the right and privilege to lead a fulfilling and nurturing life, free from all kinds of oppression. This was a dream and a hope over 60 years ago. The Constitution of India and specifically the Preamble to the Constitution of India, defines a clear roadmap for the future of our country wherein the common man and woman hold the power to decide their destiny.

Today nobody can say that India has achieved this dream. Before independence the common man was a slave to foreign powers; today he has become a slave of the political system of our country. There is a new master in our country today - the political Neta. This Neta, who asks for our votes during elections, and then forgets us after he wins, this political entity decides the common man's destiny.

But every civilisation reaches a plimsoll line of tolerance. This is our line. India's common man has had enough of oppression, inequality, injustice and unkept promises. For the last 2 years the anti corruption movement has galvanised the country from end to end into one common voice - a voice that is demanding a complete rehaul in the way political parties and their leaders function.

This national demand for a change in the way our political system works has forced our anti corruption drive to enter the political arena to clean it from the inside. Politics itself is not a dirty word - it is our current breed of politicians who have made it dirty. Aam Aadmi Party wants to make politics a noble calling once again.

We want to create a system where the political leaders we elect and place in the Parliament are directly responsible to the voters who elected them. Our party's vision is to realise e dream of SWARAJ that Gandhiji had envisaged for a free india - where the power of governance and rights of democracy will be in the hands of the people of India.

Reason Behind Joining Politics

For the past two years millions of common Indians came out on streets to fight against the biggest evil in our country today - corruption. This people's anti-corruption movement has exposed the ugly and greedy face of our politicians. No political party in India today works for the common man's needs. The Janlokpal Movement was a call to all the politicians of India to listen to the common man's plea. For almost 2 years we tried every single way available to plead our cause to the government - peaceful protesting, courting arrest, indefinite fasting several rounds of negotiations with the ruling government - we tried everything possible to convince the government to form a strong anti- corruption law. But despite the huge wave of public support in favour of a strong anti-corruption law, all political parties cheated the people of India and deliberately sabotaged the Janlokpal Bill. The time for peaceful fasts and protests is gone. This is the time for action. Since most political parties are corrupt, greedy and thick skinned, it's time to bring political power back into the people's hands. We are not saying that every single politician is corrupt and greedy. There are many good intentioned people in politics today who want to work honestly for the people of India. But the current system of polity does not allow honest politicians to function. We are also not claiming that every single person who joins our party will be hundred percent honest. We are saying that it is the system that has become very corrupt and needs to be changed immediately. Our aim in entering politics is not to come to power; we have entered politics to change the current corrupt and self-serving system of politics forever. So that no matter who comes to power in the future, the system is strong enough to withstand corruption at any level of governance.

Establishment of INA Market and Contribution of Shri Ramesh Bhutani:

Ramesh Bhutani the name people of INA Market & nearby areas have been vouching for now more than 3 decades says Madan Lal, General Secretary of INA Traders Association, remembering the days of Mandal Commission told us that during that tenure under the guidance of our President Sh. Ramesh Bhutani we got tents installed for the college students and Mr. Bhutani guided them to stop violence and extended his support to students by arranging food, blankets and space with tents installed for them. He adds that there have been a number of more incidents during his long tenure like the fire gutted thrice in the market and Mr. Bhutani was one person who got involved every time problems occured and did fight with the DESU to get new wires installed in the market so as to safe guard the market from fire incidents It is Mr. Bhutani's effort that the markets of New Delhi & South Delhi which were alloted by the Estate Dept. to the refugees and other people in 60's that got them ownership rights of their shops. He is still fighting for the rights of markets awaiting ownership including INA Market, which was stalled by Sh. Ajay Maken on the pretext of rebuilding the market as a mall. Neither there is a plan for a mall nor the market has been given ownership rights even after depositing the money 10 years back, tells us the market Vice President Sh. K.L. Sachdeva owner of Lucky General Store. On being investigating the famous meat market situated in the last of INA Market we were shocked to know that despite the court orders neither PWD, MCD nor NDMC is maintaining the market and according to Mr. Qureshi it is the President Mr. Bhutani who with the support of association has been maintaining the sewers, toilets, cleaning, barsaatis and rain water drainage on their own. If this is the condition of one the most famous and prestigious markets of New Delhi what could be situation in the interiors of the city adds Qureshi.

Contribution of Shri Ramesh Bhutani during 1984 Riots:

Mr. Jaswant Singh owner of Fish Corner reminds us of the 1984 riots which started from Safdarjang Airport, nearby INA Market, tells us he was a young man of 30 years that time, and tells us how Mr. Ramesh Bhutani then the General Secretary of the market safeguarded all the 7 shops owned by the sikh people in the market. He remembers that all the families of the sikhs of the market were safeguarded by the association 24x7 until it all was over , " and we all stayed in the market only with our parents, children and close relatives feeling safer in the market than at homes" says Mr. Singh.

A True Leaders of Businessmen: Shri Ramesh Bhutani

It has been a long journey with Mr. Bhutani says the market people from solving our NDMC, MCD, Sales Tax < Income Tax problems from looking into our personal problems. He has been our mentor and savior in all ups and downs in our lives and has the quality of leading, helping and caring people without thinking about any caste, creed or age. He is our true leader told us by Mr. Shyam Ahuja owner of Shyam Stores. This market has been the favourite market of many prominent dignitaries of the world, which includes the leaders like Lt. Honourable Sh. Giani Jail Singh ji, Lt. Sh. Rajiv Gandhi and foreign dignitaries and the latest being Mrs. Prime Minister Japan in 2012

Corruption: Views of Shri Ramesh Bhutani

Corruption is something which has weakened our system from inside, corruption has made its root deep inside our system from a peon to the minister. It cannot be eradicated in a month or 2, but we have to start working on it from today, we have to understand that to remove corruption we have to come together and promise ourselves that come what may, WE WILL NOT PAY BRIBE. This way we can deal with the corruption on ground basis and in day to day affairs of public dealing. The bigger issue is corruption at higher levels at ministerial levels, where there are deals worth of thousands of crores, like the defence purchases, the CWG expenses in 2010, tendering of projects like highways worth hundreds of crores. And to tackle this corruption we need to have a very strong LOKPAL and make every public servant accountable for any wrong decision which is not in the favour of the country We should look into not only making of strong anti-corruption laws but we have to make it sure that they are implemented very strongly. AAP deeply believes that entrepreneurship and industry are the life blood of the economy. What they are against is companies indulging in corruption - paying political parties to seek favours, bringing their way to contracts etc. Since the AAP has exposed corruption by large industrial houses there is false propaganda that they are against industry. This is completely untrue. The reality is that many of established industrial houses are products of the license raj. They have grown and thrived by nurturing corruption.

Women Empowerment: Views of Shri Ramesh Bhutani

Today we all talk about woman empowerment, but do we really wish to empower the woman? Have we taken any serious step to do so? The first thing we need to understand that first we should learn to respect a woman, and we have to start this at home. In every relation woman is the one at the giving side as a mother, as a daughter, as a sister as a companion. And men are always at the receiving end, as a father brother, husband, son. Now when we respect the woman at home we learn and teach people around us to respect the woman. Woman is worshiped in a temple and abused on the road. Is this what we have in our Indian culture? Women need not be worshiped but YES should be respected. We should treat them equally at work, at home, at road and everywhere. Few thoughts from my diary about woman empowerment, I firmly believe that women in our country is the real future, giving respect to them is giving respect to the nation, come join hands with me and strengthen the nation on women empowerment, Jai hind.

Article Published on Times of India: Little maintenance over years, INA Market flith Ruhi Bhasin, TNN Jul 17, 2011,

NEW DELHI: This is a favourite destination for Delhi's diplomats and foreign tourists to do grocery shopping. But over the years, the high-end INA Market has deteriorated a lot because of lack of proper maintenance — it now reeks of filth with sewer lines overflowing everywhere. With no civic agency coming forward to take the responsibility and the traders still fighting for their lease deed copies, the association of Indian National Army Market has moved the high court to settle the issues. "Our market has been ignored by all government agencies for years now. It lacks even the basic civic amenities. We have had to collect money from the traders in the area to create a proper sewage system. We have also pitched in to construct public urinals in the area. With no one willing to carry out the maintenance, we have had to approach the high court," said Ramesh Bhutani, the president of the INA Market traders association. According to the association, the case will come up again on October 17. The traders allege they have built the sewage system with their limited means but the system is not connected with the sewage lines of the surrounding areas. "There is no proper outlet for the sewage system. It reeks of filth and dirt and there is stagnant water everywhere. So many diplomats visit the market but no one has bothered with improving the condition of the market. They would rather have people walking around with a cloth or hands over their mouths to keep the foul smell at bay," said the owner of Krishan Lal Masala Store, Kamal Sharma. The traders claim their market is under the Land & Development Office and has not been transferred to any civic body as yet. The market has 275 shops which sell imported grocery products, poultry and seafood among other things. "We have been running after all civic agencies to resolve the maintenance problem but no one is willing to do anything. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is more than willing to collect the property tax and the licence fees from us but distances itself from the market beyond this. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), which is responsible for parking, has at least improved that area besides upgrading the footpaths," said Bhutani. MCD had promised to improve the area by constructing fancy kiosks before the Commonwealth Games but nothing has been done so far. "We are in the process of setting up 151 kiosks. These kiosks will be the temporary tehbazaari sites which will be allocated to the vendors in the area. As far as maintenance of the market is concerned, it is not under us. It is a Central Public Works Department market," said MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur. "We have been fighting for the ownership rights of our shops. We paid money in the early 90s to enable the government to lease out these shops to us. But this never happened," said Surinder Dua, the owner of Vishal Silk Store. Dua said that with the presence of Several chicken and meat shops and lack of proper waste disposal, the market emanates a foul smell all the time.
