Kira Velvet Storm (born October 8, 1999, in Vienna, Austria) is a singer-songwriter and poet based in Berlin and in Los Angeles. Her music blends ambient pop, acoustic folk, and poetic storytelling, often described as cinematic and emotionally raw.
Early life
[edit]Kira was born Kira Raye Novak in Vienna, Austria. She grew up in a creative household — her mother was a literature professor and her father a jazz photographer. Surrounded by poetry, music, and black-and-white photography, Kira began writing poems at age 7 and composing melodies by age 11.
At 16, after her parents' separation, she moved with her mother to Berlin. The contrast between Vienna’s quiet elegance and Berlin’s raw, expressive culture shaped much of her artistic identity.
Career
[edit]Kira began her musical journey performing in the streets of Berlin, busking in iconic locations such as Mauerpark, Boxhagener Platz, and the Warschauer Brücke — often drawing crowds with her emotional voice and stripped-down acoustic sets.
In 2024, she adopted the stage name Kira Velvet Storm, symbolizing the contrast between the softness of her sound ("Velvet") and the emotional intensity she carries ("Storm").
She gained attention with her debut single Smoke in My Soul, followed by Love on Repeat and Light in Your Window. Her music is known for ambient textures, cinematic arrangements, minimal percussion, and emotionally raw lyrics. Though based in Berlin, she divides her time between Germany and Los Angeles, where she collaborates with independent producers and performs in intimate venues.
Musical style and influences
[edit]Her influences include artists like Damien Rice, Agnes Obel, Amália Rodrigues, and Norah Jones. Kira’s songs are minimalist in arrangement and poetic in delivery, focusing on emotional intimacy and lyrical depth.
