Medanta (The Medicity) is a multi-specialty medical institute based in Gurgaon in the National Capital Region of India.[1][2] It was established in 2009, by cardiac surgeon, Naresh Trehan and Sunil Sachdeva. Dr. Trehan is the Chairman and Managing Director of the hospital.[3] Medanta has expanded its outreach to other cities including Lucknow,[4] Indore and Ranchi.[5] It is the first hospital in India to introduce Air Ambulance, in 2013.[6]

Founder

Dr. Naresh Trehan is an India cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon. He graduated from King George's Medical University, Lucknow and went on to practice at New York University Medical Center Manhattan USA from 1971 to 1988.[8] He has served as a personal surgeon to the President of India since 1991.[9]

Da Vinci Surgical System

The Da Vinci Surgical System with 3D HD vision is the most advanced platform available for minimally invasive surgery. This robotic surgery system which is designed ergonomically for enhanced dexterity, precision, and control with breakthrough surgical capabilities combined with superior 3D visualization.[11]

Cyberknife Robotic Radiosurgery System

With the CyberKnife System, patients can complete treatment in one to five days, unlike the conventional radiation therapy course, which takes weeks to complete. The system both reduces treatment time as well as the side effects associated with radiotherapy.[12][13]

Cataract suite

This suite comprises an image guided system along with laser technologies to perform cataract surgery with precision and accuracy. With a series of specialized services, the Cataract Suite is designed to provide high-end medical and surgical eye care.[14]

Brain Suite And Others

The BrainSuite performs intra-operative MR imaging as well as MR guided surgery. It enables surgeons to perform high resolution MRIs during surgery to assess the degree of tumour removal and to avoid damaging normal brain tissues. The BrainSuite also provides tumour luminescence i.e. guiding techniques that visualise tumour during the surgery.[15] Artis Zeego Endovascular Cath Lab a floor-mounted imaging system that provides advanced imaging and fulfills the requirements for treating complex cases such as high-risk patients and structural heart disease. Since the Artis Zeego allows procedures to be contained in one room, emergencies or complications can be handled immediately, thus lower the risk for patients.[16]

Telemedicine

The Telemedicine program at Medanta is based on cloud computing, wherein a group of doctors are available over the web for[17] video consultation from anywhere across the globe over any device be it a desktop, laptop, mobile or tablet.[18] Patients pay by using their credit cards after consultation.

Acquisition Reports

The US-based PE fund Carlyle acquired 27% stake in Medanta from US-based Avenue Capital in 2013 at a valuation of $600 million (Rs 3,540 crore in 2013)[19]. Further Singapore based company Temasek Holdings also owns shares in Medanta. It is reported that TPG and Temasek Holdings-backed Manipal Hospitals chains, has submitted a binding offer of Rs.5,800 crore.[20] for purchase of shares of Medanta

International patient services

Medanta treats variety of patients from south east Asian and Arab countries. It manages formalities like visa, hotel reservations and treatment packages for its clients. They have language interpreter to overcome linguistic barriers.
