Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon[a] is a 2023 mecha-based vehicular combat game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The sixth mainline entry in the Armored Core series, the story follows augmented mercenary C4-621 as they are sent to the ruined planet Rubicon, which has become a battleground between corporations over control of the energy source Coral. The story features multiple endings based on C4-621's alliances with different factions. Gamplay features C4-621 piloting one of the titular mechs in combat missions, fulfilling mission objectives including investigating areas, destroying targets, and fighting specific enemy mechs. There is also a self-contained multiplayer mode in which players fight in one-on-one or three-on-three matches.
Pre-production on Armored Core VI began in 2018, with full production beginning in 2020 with a team of company veterans including director Masaru Yamamura, producr Yasunori Ogura, and composer Kota Hoshino. The team's design goals were to streamline the series mechanics to make them approachable for newcomers while continuing to please series veterans. Several notable mecha artists were involved in production including Kazutaka Miyatake and Shōji Kawamori. Upon release, it was praised by journalists for its gameplay depth and customization options, but saw criticism for its story delivery. It sold three million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling Armored Core entry to date.
