Carpentry is the word used to describe the occupation of a carpenter. A carpenter is a craftsman with skills that include wood working, operating many tools. These skilled are required for the making of things such as furniture buildings, etc. Because it is so essential in many kinds of construction carpentry is the largest type of construction trade. Thirty percent of the carpenters in the world are self employed.



Hammer: One of the most recognizable tools in carpentry. When you think of carpentry, usually the first thing that comes to mind is the hammer. This tool is used for applying nails to wood to keep separate pieces together.



The Wrench: The wrench is a simple tool but is also major because of its majority of use. The wrench is used mainly for twisting bolts and other such objects in to place.




Drill: The drill is a carpentry tool that has a drill bit at the end which rotates. It is used for making hole in surfaces to fit screws (screws explained later on in this document).




Nails: Nails are used to hold wood components together.



Screws: The screw is like a nail but it has a pattern of spiraling threads. It is usually used for holding together metal components or. A piece of furniture bought and delivered unassembled.


Screw Driver: A screw driver is used for fitting screws.




Circular Saw: This used for making cuts into wood.

Mitre Saw: Also known as the chop saw, this makes precision cuts in the wood and can also be used for angle cuts.


Hacksaw: This saw is basically used for cutting metal but can also be used for cutting wood. Some have pistol grips for better grip.




Pliers: These were first invented in Europe in 2000 BC. Used handle hot objects (Commonly used in smithing). Then new designs came out and had new purposes such as fastening objects or twisting bolts etc.



Measuring tools: These are used to for making measurements. It’s ideal for finding the placement of where you want to cut have and it done accurately.










Drill Press: Used for making aligned holes in wood. It’s a fixed type drill that is mounted on stand and also can be bolted to the floor. It has a set which moves the drill head vertically.







Sanding Equipment: Sanding equipment is used when something needs to be smoothed. Like for smoothing out sharp corners on a carving.
