Avery Allan Watts (born October 27th, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter, composer, record producer, multi-instrumentalist, live performer and music industry entrepreneur.[1] Watts’ first release The Takeover EP entered in the Top 25 album charts upon its debut in Europe. His follow-up full-length album The Takeover has subsequently found domestic success in mainstream licensing placements with the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, and various video games.[2]

Background

[edit]

Avery Allan Watts was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. In high school, Watts studied both creative writing and cinematography with the intent of pursuing a career in film-making. After receiving a guitar for his eighteenth birthday, Watts formed a three-piece punk band with friends from high school in the fall of 2000. After many line-up changes and a move to Los Angeles, CA, Watts’ group eventually disbanded in 2007. By 2009, Watts released his first solo commercial recording The Takeover EP; marking the first time Watts would debut his now-recognized sound, along with single-handedly producing his own records.[3]

Musical style

[edit]

Watts’ musical style has been described as a combination of Rock, Metal, Hip-Hop and Classical music with motivational lyrics. His songs are frequently a hybrid mix of Rock instrumentation with original orchestral compositions. Due to his mixed vocal techniques, Watts music has sometimes been referred to as Rapcore a genre of alternative rock music characterized by the use of rap (recitative) vocals, which combines instrumental and vocal characteristics found in punk rock , hardcore punk and hip-hop . Watts is known for not only composing and writing all of his own songs, but also for performing all the instruments (including vocals) on his records. He also engineers, produces, mixes, and masters every release. Additionally, he is credited for all of the artwork, graphic design, and imagery associated with each commercial music release.
