The 2029 Western Australian state election is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 10 March 2029. Voters will elect all 59 members of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly and all 37 members of the Western Australian Legislative Council.
Background
[edit]At the 2025 election, the Labor Party led by Roger Cook retained government, winning 46 seats in the Legislative Assembly. The opposition Liberal Party suffered another heavy defeat and was left with seven seats. After the loss, Libby Mettam stepped down as leader and Basil Zempilas was elected as the new party leader in early 2025.
The election also marked the implementation of Legislative Council electoral reform, with a single statewide electorate and a proportional representation system replacing the former regional structure.
