The MRTA or The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, which is a government-owned organization under Thailand's Ministry of Transport, is mainly in charge of designing, building, and managing mass rapid transit networks in Bangkok and nearby regions, as well as other significant cities throughout Thailand. In 1992, the MRTA was founded with the goal of creating and overseeing Bangkok's mass rapid transit system. The Blue Line, the first of many lines, began operating in 2004, and the MRTA has since continued to grow and enhance the system by adding new lines and stations.
MRTA runs Bangkok's MRT subway system, with two lines (Blue and Purple) that serve important areas. They're also working on building new lines and extending existing ones to improve public transportation and reduce traffic in Bangkok. In addition, the MRTA collaborates with both public and private organizations to unify the mass rapid transit system with other transportation modes, like buses and trains, creating a smooth and connected transport system for users.
Current Lines
[edit]The MRT system in Bangkok consists of two rapid transit lines, one of which is called the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line or MRT Blue Line, and the other is called the Chalong Ratchadham Line or MRT Purple Line. The MRT Blue Line is an underground line with 38 stations that connects the central business district to the northern part of the city, while the MRT Purple Line is an elevated line with 16 stations that connects the western and northern parts of the city.
In addition to these two lines, three new MRT lines were under construction in Bangkok and due to open in 2023. These include the MRT Pink Line, MRT Yellow Line, and MRT Orange Line. The MRT Pink Line will be a monorail line running from Khae Rai in the northern part of the city to Min Buri in the eastern part, while the MRT Yellow Line will be a rapid transit line running from Lat Phrao in the northeastern part of the city to Samrong in the southeastern part. The MRT Orange Line will be a rapid transit line running from Thailand Cultural Centre in the central part of the city to Min Buri in the eastern part.
MRT Blue Line or Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line
The Mass Rapid Transit Project Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line is a major transportation infrastructure project in Bangkok, Thailand. TOD
[edit]Concept of TOD around the line
Benefits from the development of the area around the bus station to the community and the overall economy are as follows:
1. Cities will provide housing and mobility choices for citizens.
2. Improves Environmental Performance
3. Results in Infrastructure Cost Saving by sharing infrastructure between communities and mass transit systems.
4. Helps Support Healthy lifestyles by living together as a compact community that uses corridors as the main transportation system within the community.
5. Strengthens Transit System having a community or neighborhood with a large compact located around the station will help stabilize the travel volume of people.[7]
