Offensive Security Wireless Professional (OSWP)
[edit]This certification is offered by Offensive-Security [1] - a training spin off of the BackTrack Penetration Testing distribution. The OSWP is an 802.11 2.4 GHz wireless certification, it's holders have used active and passive wifi techniques to analyze various encryption schemes in a controlled lab, and have determined the strength of passwords under these schemes.
OSWP Course
[edit]The required course leading to the OSWP Certification is Offensive Security Wireless Attacks, which is more commonly known by it's official nickname WiFu [2]. It begins with an extensive reading list covering wifi theory and practices, followed by practical lessons based on the aircrack-ng suite of tools [3]. Students provide their home labs for the exercises, minimum requirements are a wifi router or AP and a computer equipped with a wifi card capable of injection. This course is offered as a package consisting of videos, a pdf, and home lab assignments.
OSWP Challenge
[edit]Upon completion of the course students become eligible to take the Certification Challenge. This Certification Challenge is a practical exam requiring the student to ssh into a BackTrack machine in the Offensive Security challenge labs and use that machine to explore and analyze/attack the lab wireless "victims". The student is required to score 100% within 4 hours in order to earn the OSWP Certificate. Documentation must include procedures used and proof of success including cracked wireless passwords that are changed per exam. Exam results are reviewed by a certification committee and a reply is given within seventy-two (72) hours.
