The reason for colonial expansion had 4 main points. The Need For Raw Materials and Markets. The United States was now an industrial power. Colonies could provide needed raw materials for factories, a guaranteed market for manufactures, and a place for farmers to sell their surplus crops. The next reason is Strategic Reasons.
