SPONTANEANATION is a weekly improv comedy podcast created by Paul F. Thompkins and produced by Earwolf.[1] The podcast debuted on April 1, 2015[2] and reached number one on iTunes after just its first week.[3]
Format
[edit]Each episode is constructed of three distinct parts: Thompkins' introductory monologue, an interview with a celebrity guest, and a long-form improvisational sketch during which, Thompkins is joined by a panel of three guest improvisers. Notable guests have included Busy Philipps, Jason Ritter, and Elizabeth Reaser. The interview is largely based around a question posed by the previous guest who is unaware to whom the question will be addressed. After the interview, the panel is tasked with creating a sketch using a location provided by the celebrity interviewee while often incorporating details into the story which reference the interview. The entirety of the podcast is scored by pianist Eban Schletter which, like the rest of the podcast, is wholly improvised.
