Unichar

[edit]

If you are feeling generous, would you modify the template so that it is possible to make dotted circle the default for cwith if no argument is given, since this is by far the most common use of it. For example {{unichar|0303|cwith=|nlink=}}

(I don't think there is an obvious default for suffix= yet.) ๐•๐•„๐”ฝ (talk) 22:40, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the default from the non-breaking space to the dotted circle as you asked. I hope that doesn't break anything. As for |suffix=, there really isn't an obvious default because it's not really in use yet other than 42355 Typhon and a few instances of |cwith=โ—Œโ—Œ that I've corrected. I'm assuming that its use will remain so rare that we might not even need a default. Warudo (talk) 23:04, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

why did you do that?

[edit]

Module:Citation was recently deleted as a result of Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2025 May 7 ยง Module:Citation. Why did you recreate it? Why did you choose to redirect to a module that is not in the module 'tree'?

โ€”Trappist the monk (talk) 15:11, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I made it because {{#invoke:citation|web}} does make sense as an alternative form of {{#invoke:cite|web}}. It also doesn't really matter if the redirect targets a module in or out of the tree. Just that the target is a plausible synonym which it is. Warudo (talk) 15:15, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

List of typographical symbols and punctuation marks

[edit]

Might you be able to help at template talk:Unichar#An odd request: name only? I would like to resolve this issue properly. ๐•๐•„๐”ฝ (talk) 22:40, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@JMF Would you mind being more specific? I don't know what a proper solution to the issue would look like in your mind. You asked for a way to fetch character names, like Unichar does. I told you the way Unichar does it. Are you asking me to make the change in list of typographical symbols and punctuation marks? Warudo (talk) 22:49, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm working on it at my sandbox, but the idea is that column 2 the table should have the true canonical name of the mark. (I thought of merging columns 1 and 2 and have a single {{unichar2}} call per row but that makes sortation less effective, which is possibly a show-stopper?. It would be a lot easier than writing a new template of course!)
Either way, it is potentially a controversial change so I will certainly float the idea for comment at the article talk page before I do a load of work. (Which I will do, I'm not asking you to do it.)
I assume you will see that I have replied to you at template talk:Unichar. ๐•๐•„๐”ฝ (talk) 23:27, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
