- April 4, 2012 - Yair rand posts comment on MediaWiki:Talk:Reference Tooltips stating Reference Tooltips is available as a gadget on en:Wikipedia (click to see gadget code history)
- April 12, 2012 - Village Pump Proposal Opened by Yair rand to enable Reference Tooltips on en:Wikipedia
- April 30, 2012 - Wikipedia Signpost mentioned proposal to enable Reference Tooltips by default
- June 11, 2012 - Adjustable delay added to live gadget on en:Wikipedia by User:MSGJ through request of User:Yair rand
- This was in respond to complaint that tooltips would pop up while users were scrolling down page and cursor happened to land on one of them, 200 ms delay mostly eliminated this concern
- July 3, 2012 - Yair rand posts in Village Pump (misc) asking help on protocol for getting Reference Tooltips enabled by default
- July 17, 2012 (DEPLOYMENT) - Reference Tooltips Gadget enabled by default on en:Wikipedia by User:Penwhale per request by User:Yair rand (REQUEST LINK)
- Note: this was enabled by default for both unregistered and registered users
- August 21, 2012 - Village Pump Proposal on Reference Tooltips Closed by User:HJ_Mitchell
