The Ishwardi Export Processing Zone (commonly known as 'Ishwardi EPZ' or 'Pabna EPZ') is a special economic zone in Bangladesh, located in the Ishwardi area near the town of Pabna in the northern region of the country.^[1] This export processing zone was established in 2001. Spanning an area of 309 acres, it is the third-largest export processing zone in Bangladesh.

Location

This EPZ is located in Ishwardi of Pakshi area in Pabna district, 220 kilometers from Dhaka city. It is 10.60 kilometers from Ishwardi Airport, 110 kilometers from Rajshahi Airport, 484 kilometers from Port of Chittagong, and 280 kilometers from the Port of Mongla.^[1]

Provided Facilities

This is a duty-free zone where raw materials can be imported completely duty-free, and the produced goods can be exported abroad without any duties. Industrial establishments here are supported by facilities provided through the BEPZA authority, including a water supply system and an 11 kV substation for electricity. Additionally, natural gas is supplied as fuel through the Western Region Gas Authority.^[1]

The factories here operate under three types of investments:

100% foreign investment
Joint ventures between foreign and domestic investments and
100% domestic investment

The EPZ has a total of 290 industrial plots.^[1]

Sweater
Processed food items, among others.

Export

During the 2012-13 fiscal year, a total of USD 4,856.68 million^[2] worth of goods were exported from the EPZs, accounting for approximately 18% of the national exports. Among these, Ishwardi EPZ alone contributed USD 55.71 million worth of exports.^[3]

In the 2013-14 fiscal year, the EPZs collectively exported goods worth USD 5,525.30 million,^[2] with Ishwardi EPZ contributing USD 93.16 million.

Over the past six years, BEPZA has achieved growth rates of 129.55% in investments, 155.95% in exports, and 112.30% in employment.^[4]
