The Middletown Free Library is a public library in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Delaware County Library System. It is an 501(c)(3) non-profit entity.
Description
[edit][edit] The library portion of the Roosevelt Community Center is over 12,000 square feet and is contained in the Western wing of the structure on both floors. The library includes a children's room behind a door and a dedicated teen space. There is a community collaboration space where patrons are free to eat and drink. There are four study rooms which are free for the public to use, although they require an online reservation.
The library has a dedicated maker space on the second floor, which was the first of its kind for a library in Delaware County.
History
[edit][edit] The library was founded in 1956. It began as a converted bus, but has since called two buildings home. From the early 1960s until 2021, the library was located at 21 N. Pennell Road. Since the summer of 2021, it has been located in the Roosevelt Community Center at 464 S Old Middletown Read Suite 3, Media, PA 19063.
Since the library found a permanent home and moved out of the bus more than sixty years ago, there have been four directors. The longest serving and first director was Marjorie Spencer, who served as director for forty-six years.
