Tarinipur is a village in the Katigorah tehsil of Cachar district in Assam, India. It is located in the Barak Valley and lies in the fertile plains of the Barak River basin.[1] Tarinipur is part of the Fulbari-Tarinipur Gaon Panchayat.
Geography
[edit]Tarinipur is situated at an elevation of about 26 meters above sea level. The village experiences heavy monsoon rainfall and lies near the Barak River, which occasionally floods low-lying areas. Nearby villages include Panchgram, Polapar, and Sripur Pt I, with the nearest railway stations at Hilara and Panchgram.
History
[edit]Tarinipur is part of the historic Barak Valley, which was once under the Kamarupa and later the Ahom rule. Colonial tea plantations and migration of Bengali settlers influenced the demographic and cultural landscape. Historical events such as the 1947 Partition brought migration into the region.[2]
