Ravi Srinivasan (September 4, 1979 – Present) is a Ph.D student[1] in mathematics at the University of Oklahoma. His work mainly concerns differential Galois theory. He is expected to complete his Ph.D studies in May 2009.
Early Life
[edit]
Ravi was born September 4, 1979 in Madurai, India, the second child to Ron and Elaine Srinivasan. The influence of Christianity was heavy in his hometown, which happened to be where Augustus De Morgan was born. His family wanted Ravi to become a Christian, but he disapproved of their teachings so Ravi grew accustomed to always defend his beliefs against Christianity. He often turned to his older brother, Christopher, for guidance. He was a mentor to Ravi throughout his life and helped Ravi shape his future. Christopher would take Ravi for walks through Madurai answering any questions Ravi would ask about life. They became incredibly close.
Education
[edit]
Ravi grew up educated by Catholic missionaries. Though he was forced to attend school by his parents, Ravi soon grew to appreciate the opportunity to study for free. After completing basic education during his formative years, Ravi decided to study mathematics, earning his master's degree while still in India. He then moved to Norman, Oklahoma to begin work on his Ph.D. While at the University of Oklahoma, Ravi become a huge proponent of algebra and now continues to express his hatred of topology to anyone who will listen. Ravi started the Student Algebra Seminar in August 2006 and also ran the Graduate Student Seminar from August 2006 to May 2007. Ravi chose to study differential Galois theory. His expected graduation date is May 2009.
