![]() | Evaluate an article
Complete your article evaluation below. Here are the key aspects to consider: Lead sectionA good lead section defines the topic and provides a concise overview. A reader who just wants to identify the topic can read the first sentence. A reader who wants a very brief overview of the most important things about it can read the first paragraph. A reader who wants a quick overview can read the whole lead section.
ContentA good Wikipedia article should cover all the important aspects of a topic, without putting too much weight on one part while neglecting another.
Tone and BalanceWikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point of view; if there are substantial differences of interpretation or controversies among published, reliable sources, those views should be described as fairly as possible.
Sources and ReferencesA Wikipedia article should be based on the best sources available for the topic at hand. When possible, this means academic and peer-reviewed publications or scholarly books.
Organization and writing qualityThe writing should be clear and professional, the content should be organized sensibly into sections.
Images and Media
Talk page discussionThe article's talk page — and any discussions among other Wikipedia editors that have been taking place there — can be a useful window into the state of an article, and might help you focus on important aspects that you didn't think of.
Overall impressions
Examples of good feedbackA good article evaluation can take a number of forms. The most essential things are to clearly identify the biggest shortcomings, and provide specific guidance on how the article can be improved. |
Which article are you evaluating?
[edit]Plantago aucklandica - Wikipedia
Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?
[edit]I chose this plant because the genus Plantago has some really cool species, some of which grow where I live. For example, one of the species is a really good medicinal herb and is a great snack for rabbits and sheep. This species likely has similar properties. Additionally, it is endemic to New Zealand and is at risk of extinction. It seems like a unique plant that has many useful properties.
Evaluate the article
[edit]The introductory sentence does a great job summarizing the article in a concise way, though the lead does not introduce the major sections of the article. The article's content is relevant to the species but is incomplete. As it discusses an endemic plant species, it is important to share knowledge about it and this article does so in a well-balanced way, keeping a neutral standpoint. All of the information is cited with reliable sources with sources that are fairly current. There are a variety of authors cited with working links to the sources. The article is well organized and has no grammatical or spelling errors, but it could be worded better. There is one image that shows the plant, however I am having trouble telling if it is cited correctly. This article does not have a talk page directly linked, but it is eligible to be a part of WikiProject Plants and WikiProject New Zealand. It is rated C-class, low importance.
Overall the article has great potential, but is incomplete. It is well organized and has some information on key topics related to the species. To improve this article, more information needs to be added as well as more sources.
