Narinder Kaur
[edit]Narinder Kaur is an Indian field hockey player who represented the senior Indian women's national team from 2014 to 2017. She played primarily as a forward and was part of the squad that won the gold medal at the 2016 Women's Asian Champions Trophy in Singapore.[1][2][3][4] In 2024, she served as the team manager for the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) team that won the bronze medal at the 4th Hockey India Senior Women Inter-Department National Championship.[5][6]
Early life and education
[edit]Kaur trained under Dronacharya awardee coach S. Baldev Singh in Shahbad[7], Haryana. She pursued her studies at Malwa College of Physical Education, Bathinda, where she excelled in sports.[8] She won a gold medal in the all-India inter-university hockey tournament during her time at Malwa College.[9]
Career
[edit]Kaur was selected to represent India at the 4th Women's Asian Champions Trophy held in Singapore from October 29 to November 5, 2016[10],[11] where India defeated China 2–1 in the final to win the gold medal.[12][13][14][15] Her selection[16] [17] and performance were widely recognized in the media.[18] In addition to her international achievements, Kaur has represented several state teams, including Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh[19], and Madhya Pradesh, at the national level.[20] She has also played for the Central Secretariat team in domestic competitions.[21] One report mentioned her scoring eight goals in a tournament,[22] highlighting her abilities as a forward. Kaur contributed to Indian hockey at both the senior and junior levels. She was part of the Haryana team that won the 4th Hockey India Junior Women’s National Championship in 2013 and the Division A title in 2014.[23]. In 2024, Kaur served as team manager for the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) team, which won the bronze medal at the 4th Hockey India Senior Women Inter-Department National Championship, defeating the Sports Authority of India (SAI) team in a penalty shootout.[24]
