Black Swan (Korean: 블랙스완) is a South Korean girl group formed by DR Entertainment in 2020. The group is currently composed of four members: Youngheun, Leia, Fatou, and Judy.
History
[edit]2020: Debut
[edit]On June 26, 2020, Hyeme announced through DR Music social media pages that RaNia will rebrand for a new start at B.S. On July 1, 2020 Youngheun formerly of Stellar was announced as the leader of Black Swan (then known as B.S). On July 3, 2020, Leia (formerly known as Larissa when promoting through RaNia) was revealed as a member, thus becoming the first Kpop idol of Brazilian descent. On July 7, 2020, Black Swan along with Co-Ed Martial Arts Kpop group K-Tigers Zero was appointed as the goodwill ambassadors of Pyeongchang County.[1] On July 8, 2020, Fatou was revealed as a member, becoming the second Black Kpop Idol and the first Kpop idol from Senegal. On July 10, 2020, Judy was revealed as a member of Black Swan. On July 17, 2020, Black Swan was announced to be performing at the Pyeongchang Peace Festival which will also feature performances from K-Tigers Zero, and Oh My Girl on August 7, 2020.[2] During a Channel A news broadcast, Blackswan participated in a news story on how the COVID-19 pandemic was affecting the K-pop industry, and revealed that their debut had been postponed indefinitely.[3] On October 9, 2020, Blackswan's social media pages announced that they would be making their debut with the full album Goodbye Rania on October 16, 2020.[4] The lead single was titled "Tonight".[5]
2020-2021: Hyeme's Departure, Hiatus, and return
[edit]On November 9, Hyeme was involved in a scandal in which it was revealed that she had allegedly scammed a friend out of 50 million KRW (approximately US$44,800).[6] On November 10, DR Music announced Hyeme would leave Black Swan due to the expiration of her five-year contract. They also announced that, due to the aforementioned controversy, Blackswan would be going on a brief hiatus.[7]
On March 6, 2021, BLACKSWAN was revealed to have started a Korean Travel Series in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center of Belgium.[8]
