Early days
[edit]- David Severius Majiedt (DOB: 19 July 1968) is an Afrikaans playwright, keeping one of Namibia’s local languages alive. He was born to David Majiedt and Susanna Majiedt (Neé Strauss) on 19 July 1968 in Swakopmund. He is the middle boy child but their fourth of five children, raised in a God fearing home which would lead to him later perusing a career in theology at the University of the Free State. This would only happen after having completed his primary education in Swakopmund at Tamariskia Primary School after which he attended Tamariskia high school to complete his secondary education. It is here that his talent for writing was nurtured and groomed.
- He studied towards a Diploma in marketing at the Polytechnic of Namibia which lead to him working for The WinWin Group Namibia as Team Leader, Activations.
About the man
[edit]- Severius married Joan R Maasdorp on 10 July 1999 in Rehoboth and is still very happily married to her, as it should be. As you will learn from his plays, he is a man who is well aware of what woman go through in life and many a times, speaks for those who cannot do it themselves. They have only one daughter, Swetlana Illone Majiedt, but have been very influential in the lives of so many teens in the Hardap and Khomas regions of Namibia.
Career
[edit]- He started his employment career like a very normal working class male, at the Navachab Gold Mine near Karibib in the Erongo Region. He then packed his bags in search of a better future and moved to the capital city, Windhoek. Here he worked for the Ministry of Health where he met his wife to be. While living Rehoboth he taught drama at the Rehoboth School of Arts. He acted in a few locally produced short films over the years but is most renowned for his part in the LAG JOU PAP stand-up comedy shows. Severius is currently studying towards becoming a reverent, but he continues his writing by virtue of a weekly column in the Namibian Newspaper, a local daily.
